Located on the way between Dehradun-Mussoorie roads, in the Ram Gaon area of Tehri Garhwal, Kempty Falls is one the most popular tourist attractions and picnic spots in Mussoorie. Someone has nestled Kempty Falls at an altitude of around 4500 ft above sea level, surrounded by high mountain cliffs. The pond formed at the bottom of the falls makes an excellent spot for swimming and bathing. The name of Kempty Falls is taken from the terms “camp and tea” implying the elaborate tea parties that were once organized here in the evenings eventually leading to a localized name Kempty. John Mekinan developed it as a picnic destination due to its captivating surroundings and scenic beauty. Offering a stunning view of a water stream cascading down from a great height, it divides into two main falls.

2. Camel’s Back Road

The Camel’s Back Road, located in the heart of Mussoorie, lines with natural rock shaped like a camel’s hump for 3 km. It overlooks the Doon Valley and offers a stunning view of the Himalayas. It is also a popular place for viewing the sunrise and the sunset.

You can also see a 180-year-old British cemetery, the first of its kind in Mussoorie, en route to the Camel’s Back Road.

3. Landour

Landour is a unique city of Uttarakhand situated on the banks of the lower western Himalayas. It is a small cantonment town that surprisingly derives its name from the Welsh village of Llanddowrer and is teeming with a history that dates all the way back to the British era. Landour’s cozy setting and pristine natural beauty give off a soothingly positive vibe, ideal for one to rejuvenate their senses.

Landour sits about 980 ft above Mussoorie. The two twin hill stations have collectively been given the name “The Queen of Hills” for their spellbinding beauty and tranquility. It is in close proximity to Dehradun as well as the neighboring hamlets of Tehri, Chamba, Dhanaulti, and Chakrata. It is within 200 km of the majestic Himalayan peaks of Gangotri, Yamunotri, and Kedarnath.

4. Dalai Hills

Dalai Hills is situated above Lal Bahadur Academy and is very close to Happy Valley. It is synonymous with utter tranquillity as well as with arresting views of the mighty Himalayas and the green valleys.

5. Gun Hill

Gun Hill, also known as an extinct volcano, at an altitude of 2024 meters. The scene from the top of this hill is a panoramic view of the snow-clad Himalayan ranges right beside the widespread Doon Valley and a full view of the hill station of Mussoorie. Gun Hill, situated 400 feet above Mall Road, is a popular attraction.

The highlight of Gun Hill is the ropeway which provides a scenic view of the Himalayan ranges. The hill was named so because of the presence of a gun at these hills during the pre-independence days. The gun was fired during the day to enable people to adjust their watches during those days.

Tourists can easily reach the hill by climbing the ropeway. The ride offers an excellent bird’s eye view of the surrounding Himalayan ranges like Shrikanta, Pithwara and Bunderpunch and of colourful wildflowers. It is also a great opportunity to take some photographs of the natural beauty all around. Once at Gun Hill, it is often possible to see Gangotri through a telescope on a clear day.
