Sitla is a noted tourist spot located at a distance of 5 km from Mukteshwar. Perched at an elevation of 6000 ft above sea level, it is a beautiful hill station. Col. JHB Hallen recommended the establishment of the Indian Veterinary Research Institute as a deemed university in 1885. The campus at Mukteshwar covers an area of 3450 acres of land and comprises of Division of Virology and that of Temperate Animal Husbandry. They call it Chauli Ki Jali and it is located adjacent to the Mukteshwar temple. Mythology believes that a demon and a goddess had fought a battle in this place and bleak outlines in the place are to be seen which resemble a shield and the trunk of an elephant which are testimonials of the battle. Legend also has it the barren women who came here and touched the lattice around the rock were blessed with a child.
