Narmadakund
Madhya Pradesh, the heart of India, is a land that echoes the mystic whispers of spirituality and the divine. Kapil Dhara
The holy Narmada River forms Kapil Dhara Waterfall, which is the first waterfall on the river Narmada. Kapila and Erandi rivers also join Narmada to form Kapildhara waterfall. He had also written ‘Sankhya Philosophy’ an advanced treatise on mathematics in the Kapil Ashram.
The majestic mountains, dense forests, and low-lying hills surround Kapildhara. One needs to walk around 500 m from the parking area to see the falls. The base of the waterfall is accessible via concrete steps, where one can take a dip in the cool waters. Besides, the pilgrims also worship the footprints of Lord Kapileshwar Shiva and the sage Kapil, at the Kapil Ashram. If you go down 100 steps, you will find Doodh Dhara Waterfall which is also worth visiting.
Trimukhi Temple
Trimukhi temple, one of the oldest temples in India, sits atop a hill in Amarkantak. Also known as ‘Karna Mandir’, after King Karnadeb Mahachandra, who built it and was constructed under the reign of the Kalachuris. Artisans sculpted the face of Lord Shiva on the top of the temple. This shows the immense intricacies carved out by the Kalchuri craftsmen. It is in close proximity to other attractions like Dudh Dhara Falls, Sonmuda, Kabir Chabutra, Mai ki Bagiya and Bhrugu Ka Mandal are some of the other places of tourist interest near the Trimukhi temple.
Ancient Temples of Kalachuri Period
The Kalachuri Maharaja Karnadeva built the Ancient Temples of Kalachuri hundreds of years ago, as the name suggests. The exact dates of construction are said to be around 1042 – 1072 A.D. There are a number of temples in this complex, with the Pataleshwar Mahadev Temple and the Machhendranath Temple being the most important ones. Extensive restoration work done on the sites have improved the conditions of these grand temples and made them very popular amongst visitors from all over India and event the world.
Shri Sarvodaya Digambar Jain Temple
They recently constructed Shri Sarvodaya Digambar Jain Temple in Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh. It is one of the prominent religious places to visit in Amarkantak as part of the trip.
The construction of Shri Sarvodaya Digamber Jain Temple started in the year 2006 under the guidance of Acharya Vidyasagar. Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, the former Vice President of India, laid the foundation stone of the temple. They are spending over INR 20 Crore on constructing this temple, making it a mega project. The project is still ongoing. The temple is being constructed without cement and iron instead they are using lime and preserved stones.
People dedicated the temple to Bhagawan Adinatha, the first Jain Tirthankara. The architectural style of the temple is familiar to the famous Akshardham temple in Gujarat and the whole area covers a huge 4 acres. People have used the pink-colored sandstone from Rajasthan for construction. The temple houses a 24-tonne Ashtadhatu idol of Rishabhanatha seated on a 28-tonne lotus-shaped Ashtadhatu pedestal. The Rishabhanatha idol is 24 feet (7.3 m) sitting in Padmasan posture. It is one of the world’s biggest idols of Bhagawan Adinatha. A statue of Mahavira weighing 71 tonnes is also installed here.
